DANNY CAREY (TOOL), CEVIN KEY (SKINNY PUPPY) AND JOHN FRUSCIANTE (EX-RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) WORKING ON SIDE PROJECT?

We’ve been waiting on a new Tool album for far too long – quite literally, their last album came out seven years ago, with reports saying the album has been in works since 2009. Frontman Maynard James Keenan started a winery and filmed a documentary since 2006′s 10,000 Days came out. If you found yourself asking what drummer Danny Carey was up to, you may have a surprising answer: he’s been working on an industrial side project with cEvin Key fromSkinny Puppy.
When speaking to UK-based drummer magazine Rhythm, Danny Carey was asked if he was working on any projects beyond Tool. He said “I played on some Collide tracks. They’re a gothic type band, more industrial-sounding. I’ve done a few things with Skinny Puppy in the past. Actually, me and cEvin Key from Skinny Puppy have a project in the works right now. John Frusciante might play guitar…
If former Red Hot Chili Pepper Frusciante does play guitar, this will be the first recording of his since his two strange, semi-instrumental synthesizer hip hop (…seriously) recordings that came out last year. I’d be pumped to hear Frusciante making real rock music again, although disappointed Tool hasn’t apparently been everyone involved’s fool focus.
The issue of Rhythm Magazine with the full interview is out now; it was first discovered on Frusciante fan site Invisible Movement.
